Repox Participates in ASCSA & DataGEMS Workshop on AI and Cultural Data

Repox was honored to take part in the "Agenda for ASCSA - DataGEMS Workshop", a collaborative event organized by the American School of Classical Studies at Athens (ASCSA) and the DataGEMS EU project. The workshop brought together digital heritage experts, technologists, and researchers to explore innovative approaches to cultural data enrichment and intelligent metadata management. During the first session, the ASCSA team introduced their ongoing digitization and repository work. As part of the Repox ecosystem, our team — alongside partners from Talent, Mainsys, and Datawise — presented the ASCSA data repository, highlighting how Repox powers its infrastructure and supports long-term content preservation and access. The session also showcased forward-looking enrichment strategies led by other project partners, including the use of knowledge graphs (SAGE), automated translation, crowdsourcing techniques, and the iSkavo tool for digital excavation data. In the second session, the DataGEMS team presented tools and research around data profiling and discovery — topics that align closely with Repox's mission to make cultural data more accessible, interoperable, and usable across systems. The final open discussion explored broader questions about the future of AI in culture, the role of machine learning and crowdsourcing in metadata enhancement, and the importance of integrating legacy databases with next-generation repositories like Repox. We were excited to contribute to these conversations and to demonstrate how Repox is helping institutions bridge tradition and innovation through smart, scalable technologies.
